Yuba County Woman Escapes Attacker By Posting Cry For Help On Facebook

PLUMAS LAKE (CBS13) – A woman was able escape a horrific domestic abuse situation by posting a cry for help on Facebook, authorities say.

The details of the story are graphic. According to the Yuba County Sheriff's Department, a 41-year-old Plumas Lake woman broke up with her long-time boyfriend last week and got a restraining order against him.

Tuesday night, however, the woman says she came home and found him waiting in her garage.

Deputies say the man – 46-year-old Parrish Heavens – allegedly forced the woman into her bedroom and sexually assaulted her. At some point during the attack, deputies say Heavens pulled out a knife and cut the woman's face several times.

Heavens also turned the knife on himself, cutting his own throat.

The attack eventually ended and Heavens left, taking the woman's phone with him. But, deputies say, the woman was able to lock herself into a bathroom along with a tablet computer.

Using her Facebook page, the woman posted messages pleading for help. One of her friends noticed the messages, called authorities, and within a short while deputies and paramedics were at the home.

Heavens had left the home before deputies arrived, but he was later found at a Sacramento-area hospital when he checked himself in to be treated for his self-inflicted wounds. He is currently being treated at the hospital, but will be booked at Yuba County Jail when he's released.
