Almond Hulls Burn In Tracy At Processing Plant Prompts Health Warning
TRACY (CBS13) - Central Valley residents may be seeing and smelling smoke today.
A fire that started on Monday in piles of almond hulls at an almond processing plant on Sugar Road and Holly drive in Tracy continues to burn.
The fire has prompted a health cautionary statement from the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District for Northern San Joaquin County and Stanislaus and Merced counties. In particular, the communities of Lathrop, Manteca and Modesto are being affected.
The caution is in place until the fire is extinguished.
"People with existing respiratory conditions, young children and elderly people are especially susceptible to health effects from these pollutants. Air District officials urge residents to follow their doctors' orders when exposed to fire emissions," according to the district.
No buildings are being threatened.
