Postal Worker Who Saved Woman From Carmichael Shooting Honored

CARMICHAEL (CBS13) — A postal carrier was honored for rescuing a woman who had been shot twice and getting her to safety in Carmichael.

It was a special delivery for a Sacramento postal carrier who was labeled a hero, for good reason.

Scott Gallegos told CBS13 last month about how he saved a woman who had been shot twice at a Madison Avenue home.

The pressure of the moment intensified as investigators say the suspect, Jeremiah Hankins, started shooting at the woman he was helping and Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies.

No one was hit, and Gallegos would help deputies carry the injured woman out of harm's way and save her life.

The Carmichael Chamber of Commerce, along with representatives from state lawmakers brought out the hero hardware on Tuesday. They gave the husband and father of four awards and proclamations.

"It's kind of an overwhelming feeling to know that you can help somebody like that," he said. "It's not something I'm ever gonna forget."

He said the woman who was shot has been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
