Planning Commission Approves Plan For Curtis Park Gas Station

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The city's planning commission has approved a gas station in Curtis Park in a meeting that ran past midnight.

The 16-pump station would be a part of a Safeway at the proposed shopping center.

Community advocates have railed against the proposed gas station due to concerns over traffic congestion, possible health impacts and the hunger for more locally-owned businesses.

"It's a nice quiet neighborhood, then you're going to put all these brownstones all along there?" said Camy Solberg, who has lived in Curtis Park for the past 10 years.

Developers have said that Safeway could walk away from developing the shopping center if the gas station was not approved.

The vote came down just after 1 a.m. by a 8-3 count.
