Car Salesman Reportedly Kidnapped During Test Drive

CONCORD, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a car salesman who was kidnapped during a San Francisco Bay Area test drive escaped and police arrested the man behind the crime.

Police have not yet released the name of the suspect.

The Oakland Tribune reports Tuesday that the incident began Monday when a man came into a dealership for a test drive.

The dealership photocopied his driver's license and the man and the sales associate went for a drive in a $70,000 van.

They drove to the man's home and his family inspected the van. Back on the road, the suspect told the sale associate he was being robbed and kidnapped.

The suspect drove erratically. But, when he slowed for traffic, the salesman jumped out and ran. He called police. The suspect was chased by police before crashing the van. He was later arrested.
