Daylight Carjackings Of Elderly Women Raise Concerns At Carmichael Community Center

CARMICHAEL (CBS13) — Two elderly women who were pushed down and carjacked in broad daylight outside a Carmichael community center were the hot topic at Wednesday night's dance.

"It's frightening," said Rudy Moll. "I wish there was more security here."

At around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies say a woman in her late 70s was pushed to the ground and carjacked in broad daylight. The attack comes weeks after another senior in her early 80s was carjacked in similar fashion in about the same spot at around noon.

Joe Decocq was there for the first carjacking. Horrified, he says he watched three people forcibly take the elderly woman's car and speed off. The victim, still bruised and bandaged, still comes to play cards. But now she needs a ride.

Seniors are even more alarmed now that it's happened again.

But Vivian Kroppmann, on her way in to dance, has a word of warning for the carjackers—don't even try it.

"They better not pick on me; they'll be sorry," she said. "I'll hurt 'em. I'm ready for 'em. I ran a bar 32 years and had to protect myself. I know a few things to do."

In both cases, the elderly women ended up with bumps and bruises and no major injuries. While the incidents are similar, investigators can't say for sure whether the two carjackings are connected.
