JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Officials have identified the Marine who died after collapsing during a training hike at Camp Lejeune on the North Carolina coast.
Local media outlets report that the Marine Corps on Saturday released the name of 22-year-old Corporal Alexis Aaron Alcaraz of Sacramento, California.

Alcaraz served with the 1st Battalion, 8th Marines. Officials say Alcaraz was a decorated active-duty Marine who also had served in San Diego, Camp Pendleton, California, Twentynine Palms, California and Okinawa, Japan. He had been at Camp Lejeune less than a year.
