Reports: 49ers To Cut Darnell Dockett

According to multiple reports on twitter, Darnell Dockett, who signed a two-year, $7.5 million contract this offseason with the San Francisco 49ers, has been cut from the team.

The move comes after he reported a rib injury and only played in 18 snaps this preseason. The move might have also been because of the recent impressive play by rookie Arik Armstead and former practice squad guy Mike Purcell. The 49ers will have to dish out the $2 million guaranteed  to Dockett, but long-term they will be cutting down on spending.

Docket, a three-time pro bowler, missed the 2014 season with a torn ACL and hasn't played in a regular season game since 2013. Now that he is a free agent and able to sign anywhere, some speculated the pass rusher may return to his former team, the Arizona Cardinals. Despite rumors, its unlikely the Cardinals are interested.
