Call Kurtis: I Can't Get Travel Deals After Joining $500 Travel Club

CAMERON PARK (CBS13) — Cherie Salsbury says she calls the same number every day leaving messages for travel company VRM Tours.

"We actually stopped going places because I thought, 'oh they're going to call us.'"

In February, the company called her selling her a $500 travel club membership for one year. She showed us the VIP passport and membership card. She says the company promised deep discounts on travel. She figured she could get cheap flights to Florida, but says no one from the company will call her back.

When you try and book online, there are package offers listed with no prices. They won't even show them to you, unless you first pay them a $30 to $50 processing fee.

"I just threw away my money," she says.

The Better Business Bureau gives the company an F rating after receiving similar complaints of unreturned calls and emails.

"If you get a call like that, don't sign up for anything," said Travel Agent Trudy Flores.

She says you should never have to pay money up front to get a travel discount.

"That would be a lot of money that you would have to spend to make up for that $500." she said.

We repeatedly called VRM Tours, but never heard back. We learned its La Jolla address serves as a virtual office for several companies.

"I just want my money back," Cherie said. "$500 to me is a lot of money."

Cherie is filing a complaint with the Attorney General's Office which regulates travel companies.
