Sacramento Gearing Up For Parade Honoring Hometown Heroes Who Stopped Attack

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Sacramento is getting ready to honor three men who helped stop a suspected terrorist attack on a Paris-bound train last month.

Workers were busy on Thursday night setting the stage for the three hometown heroes' parade on Friday.

Several streets in the area will be closed to traffic as thousands are expected to attend the half-mile parade that will start at Third and Capitol and end at the west steps of the Capitol.

"You'll see representatives and groups that represent the cities or schools the three individuals came from, you're going to see a variety of groups who represent Sacramento as a whole," said spokeswoman Erika Bjork.

It's the public's first opportunity to see Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos and Spencer Stone together since the three childhood friends from the Sacramento area thwarted a gunman on a train.

Along with fans, temperatures are forecast to reach well into the triple digits on Friday. While the parade is set to be hours from the peak heat of the afternoon, organizers still caution folks to come prepared.

"We ask people to dress accordingly, bring some hats and some sunscreen," Bjork said.

But the heat won't halt the hometown pride the heroic efforts of three men now shining the spotlight on Sacramento.

"This is an opportunity really to showcase Sacramento on an international scale; to show that local pride that we have. that we are truly an indomitable city that these three men represent," she said.

Fans can bring their own water, but there will also be water stations available.
