Raiders Refusing To Put Super Bowl Gold Markings On Field
According to Sports Business Daily, the Oakland Raiders are refusing to mark their field with a customary Super Bowl markings. Chris Wright, AEG Facilities VP and the Coliseum's GM, told the publication that "The Raiders have asked us not to do that."
Every team in the NFL has gold shields and gold 50's at each end of the field to mark the 50th Super Bowl game. Every team except the Oakland Raiders.
NFL VP/Communications, Brian McCarthy, told Sports Business Daily that the lack of the markings are due to the fact that baseball is still in season. The Athletics share the Coliseum with the Raiders. Once A's home games are done, the gold markings will be put on the field.
Wright says that won't happen. "It has nothing to do with baseball. The last six home baseball games are through this weekend, and there will be no gold marks for the rest of the Raiders' regular season," stated Wright.
There has been no explanation why the Raiders won't put the gold markings on their field. Super Bowl 50th will be taking place on February 7th, 2015 at the 49ers' home field, Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.
