Spencer Stone Released From Hospital A Week After Stabbing

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Airman Spencer Stone, who was stabbed during a fight in midtown Sacramento last week, was released from the hospital Thursday.

"I'm focused now on healing and recovering and look forward to the next part of my journey," Stone said in a release.

Stone had been in the hospital since Oct. 8. He was stabbed during an early morning fight near 21st and K streets.

A cab driver who says he saw Stone just after the attack says the airman got involved in the fight after seeing a woman get punched in the face.

"He knocked out one guy, and they tried to stop him, but he was down already," he said. "The blood is coming like from everywhere."

Stone was taken to the UC Davis Medical Center after being stabbed.

"Thanks very much to the first responders and the team here at UC Davis Medical Center for taking such good care of me," Stone said. "Thanks, also, to my amazing family and friends for their love and support. And, thanks to everyone who has sent encouragement during this challenging time. "

The suspects wanted in connection to the attack still have not been caught. Wednesday, new surveillance photos of their getaway car were released in the hopes of jogging people's memories.

Stone and his childhood friends Alek Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler were propelled into the national spotlight after the three helped foil a suspected terror attack on train in France. All three men are natives of the Sacramento area.

The three have since met with President Barack Obama and had a welcome home parade thrown in their honor.
