Haunting Surveillance Video Captures Stockton Teen's Screams During Attempted Abduction

STOCKTON (CBS13) — Stockton Police are searching for a car in connection with the attempted kidnapping of a teenage girl as she walked to school on Friday morning.

Police say she was able to fight off her attacker and run home. Surveillance video captured her desperate screams as she fought off her alleged abductor, and the suspect's car driving away.

The screams that shattered the peace and quiet on a Stockton street are faint at first, but then grow louder and more urgent. The 17-year-old who was walking to school says she was face-to-face with a suspect in a ski mask.

"And she fought back, which probably saved her life," said Stockton Police spokesman Joe Silva.

The chilling video came from Tammy La's surveillance camera.

"It's scary, very scary," she said. "It's like somebody's torturing the girl you know? When I hear that, I shiver. I say, 'Oh my god -- have to get that guy.'"

Vanessa Rizo says the victim's brother came running up to warn her as she walked to school along on Friday morning.

"I got kinda scared, like my heart dropped, like maybe I would get kidnapped or something," she said.

Police are poring over past reports of suspicious vehicles in the area, but so far haven't come up with anything similar.

They say the victim in this case did the right thing by fighting and screaming at the top of her lungs, possibly startling a suspect not expecting resistance.

Silva emphasizes the importance of walking in groups, especially now.

"So we need to get this guy off the streets before he does this to someone else, and the end result could be much different than what we saw today," she said.

The suspect's vehicle is described as a late-80s, early-90s four-door Toyota or Honda, silver or gold in color.

The suspect is described as an Asian or Hispanic man in his 20s with a medium height and build, last seen wearing a black hoodie, black sweats and white shoes.
