RT Ditches Proposed Rule Targeting Riders' Smell After Complaints From Homeless Advocates

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — After homeless advocates described it as reeking of discrimination, Regional Transit has shelved a proposed rule aimed at ejecting train riders based on their smell.

Instead, RT adopted several new policies aimed at making their trains safer and more attractive.

Riders will need to be fully clothed—including wearing shoes—no long-term sleeping would be allowed on the train, and music or other sounds played over speakers would also be nixed.

The rules will go into effect immediately.
