Local Law Enforcement Agencies Hoping To Shed New Light On Cold-Case Murders

It wasn't long ago that homicide detectives had to rely on posters and word of mouth to inform the public about cold-case crimes. But the Internet, especially social media, has made disseminating and information about cases easier, and given the cases a permanent online home.

The Sacramento County and San Joaquin County sheriff's departments are two local agencies with online presences dedicated to solving cold cases. Here's where you can find their pages:

Robin Brooks

Date: April 24, 1980

Robin Brooks was a 20-year-old employee of a donut shop at Kiefer Boulevard and Tallyho Drive in Sacramento County. She lived alone in an apartment around the corner from the donut shop. She was last seen alive when she left work at midnight on April 24, 1980. Robin did not show up for work that afternoon at 4 pm. A friend became concerned and found Robin murdered in her apartment.

The body of a young woman, stuffed in a refrigerator, washed up along the Delta. Her teeth were perfect, her clothes were expensive, and she still had on a diamond engagement ring. Former detective John Huber to discuss the case, which he's still working on today.

Gerardo Ramirez Garcia

Date: April 24, 2014

Garcia's body was discovered in a barn at the back of his property on 4240 E. Carpenter Rd., Stockton by Sheriff Deputies. It was determined Garcia had been murdered.

Katherine Dee Harlan

Date: March 7, 1979

Kathy Harlan, 9,  was last seen on March 7, 1979 at approximately 7:30 am, leaving her residence to walk to the school bus stop. She never made it to school. It is believed she was abducted on her way to the bus stop. Her body was discovered on March 11, 1979, just inside Sutter County, off Powerline Road, approximately 15 miles from her residence. Kathy was murdered and left in a remote location.

Deputy Jeff Mitchell

Date: October 27, 2006

Deputy Jeff Mitchell was working patrol in a rural southern portion of Sacramento County around 3:30 a.m. on October 27, 2006. He stopped a suspicious vehicle in the roadway. When Deputy Mitchell did not answer his police radio, his partners responded to the area and found Mitchell dead from a gunshot wound to the head. It appears he was involved in a fight with the suspect(s) and was subsequently shot with his own gun.

Harriett Elizabeth Riley

Date: January 10, 1975

On the afternoon of January 9, 1975, Harriett Riley, 6, left her home to go play at a nearby park. When she did not return home after dark, her mother became concerned and filed a missing person report. The next day, Harriett was discovered in a dumpster a few blocks from her residence. She had been suffocated.

Bruce Neumann Jr.

Date: August 24, 2013

The body of 50-year-old Bruce Neumann, Jr. Neumann was found on August 24, 2013, at approximately 10:15 a.m. in the area of Jahant Road and Highway 99  in Acampo.
