Grass Valley Woman Says Hunter Used Her Dog For Target Practice

GRASS VALLEY (CBS13) — A woman says her 13-year-old dog was used as target practice by a hunter, and she's warning other pet owners.

Shelby Lou has put up an impressive fight. those who cared for her at the clinic, didn't think she'd make it. And while she's looking good, there are a lot of questions as to who do this.

She's a Vizsla and she's up and walking again after being shot in the gut in her own Grass Valley backyard more than a week ago.

"There she was, standing there, about to fall over, with a hole this big in her and a pool of blood," said Terri Pencovic. "I knew it was a gunshot.

She believes Shelby was target practice for hunters.

Doctors didn't think Shelby would make it. A bullet believed to have come from a deer rifle knocked out one of Shelby's kidneys.

Now with 100 stitches and a whole lot of medication and thousands of dollars in medical bills, Pencovic has filed a police report and wants others in the community to be warned that it was no accident.

"It's not normal people who did this. Nobody who thinks correctly would do this," she said.

To donate and check on Shelby's condition, the family has created a Go Fund me account.
