Inmate's Death At Corcoran Prison Investigated As Homicide

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - State corrections officials say the death of an inmate serving a life sentence at a Central Valley prison is being investigated as a homicide.

The inmate, 51-year-old Rufus Hodges, was found dead in his cell Monday at the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison in Corcoran.

The cause of Hodges' death is not yet known.

Officials say his cellmate is considered a suspect, but has not been charged with a crime.

Hodges was doing time at the Corcoran prison for two Riverside County murder convictions.

The prison is located about 220 miles southeast of Sacramento. It holds about 5,500 minimum- and maximum-custody inmates.
