Margaret Cho Uses Comedy As Therapy To Talk About Being Sexually Assaulted

Los Angeles (CBS Sacramento)--  Margaret Cho is using comedy as a piece of therapy and making headlines as she reveals her stories of being sexually assaulted. On her tour "PsyCHO," Cho is telling jokes as a way of healing after being raped.

She told TheWrap during her interview, "The way that rape works is that survivors of rape are tows into silence by shame. She also mentioned her new song and video for "I Want To Kill My Rapist."

Cho said, "Shame of rape manifest itself into eating disorders, drug addiction, self destruction, depression… Even as a comedian, when you talk about rape, people get very, very upset. And that infuriates me. So I'm trying to find a way to create a space where people who are survivors can find a place to laugh about it."

Beyond the discussion of rape, Cho also hits on topics such as racism and police brutality. She admits to being raped more than 15 times during her life.

Cho is not ashamed to share her stories and said, "To be able to share that in a way that is really murderous rage but also funny, I think that is a way to heal." The tour began in October and will end in Los Angeles.

Cho also made a joke about comedian Bill Cosby saying, "Comedians should now stop raping-that's Bill Cosby-and comedians can now heal rape-that's me. That's what the show is about. It's my trying to help the world. He's shamed the name of comedy because he's a rapist and now I've come to heal it because I'm a survivor. That's what the show really is."
