Fallen Leaves Could Pose Flooding Risk During Thursday's Storm

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Today would be a great day to finally get around to clearing those leaves.

A storm packing high winds and rain is expected to blow through the region on Thursday. The combination of gusts up to 45 mph in the Valley and up to half an inch of rain brings the threat of localized flooding from leaves clogging gutters and drains.

While the claw is in service, the City of Sacramento reminds residents to fill up their yard waste containers first. Common sense says it's probably not a good idea to dump a bunch of leaves in the gutter before a storm.

Thursday's storm is expected to be warmer than last week's, with snow levels around 6,000 feet on Thursday lowering to 5,000 feet by the evening, bringing four to six inches of accumulation. Six to 12 inches of snow is expected to fall along the Sierra crest through Friday, including Tahoe area ski resorts.

The persistent threats in burn scars from the Butte and Valley fires are also something to keep an eye on—weakened trees in the area may fall.

On the plus side, the storm is expected to move through quickly, tapering off on Friday.
