Moving Day: Crews Preparing To Gov. Jerry Brown's Return To A Familiar Home At Governor's Mansion

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Moving trucks were parked and ready outside the governor's mansion on 16th and H streets on Friday as crews prepared for a big move.

From cushions to carts, boxes full of keepsakes were carried into what will soon be Gov. Jerry Brown's new home. The delivery comes after months of painting, adding new plumbing and solar panel installation.

Department of General Services spokesman Brian Ferguson says the renovations were key before the governor, his wife and two corgis arrive.

"This was absolutely critical for us to kind of maintain the historical aspects, document what was happening. All of the furniture that could be taken out were painstakingly copied, documented and brought offsite to a storage place," he said.

Brown is also rolling back to an old address with this move. He spent countless hours studying for the Bar Exam in the mansion while his father served as governor.

While the mansion hasn't housed a governor since Ronald Reagan moved out in 1967, the 15-bedroom, seven-bathroom home is expected to be ready for its new occupants in the next few weeks.

The renovations cost $2.5 million, which was paid for with money from the sale of the governor's home in Carmichael.
