Hollywood, CA (CBS Sacramento) – Kylie Jenner posed on the cover of “Interview” magazine in a wheelchair and soon after controversy followed her. After the photo was shared, according to Huffington Post, 24-year-old Erin Tatum, who has cerebral palsy, decided to share hers with the world.

She went on Tumblr and posted Jenner’s picture side-by-side with her in the wheelchair she uses in real life. Tatum said in her post, “I tried my best to create a more authentic version of Kylie Jenner’s Interview cover, given that I’m, you know, actually disabled and a real life wheelchair user. I can barely get people to make eye contact with me, let alone land a cover shoot. If being in a wheelchair is trendy now, I’ve apparently been a trendsetter since before Kylie was born.”

She told Huffington Post in an email that she wanted to show how celebrities copying people with real disabilities isn’t right. Tatum expressed, “Disabled people aren’t sitting in wheelchairs because we think that they’re cool or because we think we’ll get attention, we’re using them because they are a fundamental aspect of our daily lives and the key to maintaining our freedom and quality of life. Also, it’s worth noting that Kylie’s photo is very sexualized, whereas real disabled women are desexualized specifically for being disabled.”
