Deadly Interstate 5 Crash Involving FedEx Truck Snarls Sacramento Traffic

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Rainy conditions may have played a role in a deadly Interstate 5 crash involving a FedEx truck and a pickup truck.

The crash near Seamus Avenue forced crews to shut down parts of the freeway for much of the day.

The California Highway Patrol says a FedEx driver heading southbound lost control in slick rain, crashed through the cement median and collided with a truck on the other side of the interstate.

An Elk Grove man who worked for a Sacramento sprinkler company died instantly. Friday, the coroner's office identified him as 45-year-old Elijah Jackson.

Alvaro Medina was suddenly not so worried about sitting in traffic all morning.

This brings it all home," he said. "Hopefully people aren't complaining too much. It's not that big of a deal."

The CHP is warning drivers to be extra cautious with more rain expected this holiday season.

FedEx released a statement expressing condolences for the driver killed in the crash, and said it is cooperating with the investigation.
