Rocklin Police Warn Residents That Car Thieves Are Watching For Warming Up Vehicles

ROCKLIN (CBS13) — A number of car thefts in Rocklin are raising concerns in the city, and police are warning residents to be vigilant.

In just the last two weeks, Rocklin families are getting hit by thieves taking advantage of cooler temperatures.

"I came out here and by that time it had already squealed and left," said Kathy French. "Came out here there was nothing here."

Just before 6 a.m. on Wednesday, she turned on her car to warm it up and ran inside to grab her bags.

"It did scare me that I was only in my house for only two minutes and my car was gone so someone must have been watching," she said.

In another Rocklin neighborhood just one hour later, Jim Ryan was loading up his car to head to San Diego to visit his son and granddaughter when he saw the person.

"One last thing to take was my backpack, and I was walking down the walkway to the driveway. I saw my car backing out of the drive. And I saw the thief which I believe was a young lady," she said.

He and his wife Merel have lived in the home for 30 years and never had any trouble. They're thankful nobody was injured.

Hours after we talked to him, Jim said his car was recovered with everything inside.
