Mother Convicted Of Killing Baby In Microwave Sentenced To 26 Years To Life In Prison

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A Sacramento woman convicted of killing her own child by microwaving her has been sentenced to life in prison.

Ka Yang killed her two-month-old daughter, Mirabelle Thao-Lo, back in 2011. She was convicted of first-degree murder and assault on a child causing death charges back in November.

Friday, the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office announced that Yang had been given a sentence of 26 years to life in prison.

Investigators said Mirabelle suffered burns to 80 percent of her body – some burns as deep as her internal organs. It is believed the baby was in the microwave for 2 to 5 minutes.

Yang claims she had a seizure and blacked out the day she killed her daughter. Yang spoke to CBS13 in 2012, saying: "I never thought that with my seizure I will lose my little girl," Yang said.
