SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Four years of drought culminated in a devastating month as the Valley Fire exploded overnight and enveloped Middletown. Farther north, a lake mysteriously ran dry.

10. Firefighters Injured, Evacuations Ordered Due To Quickly Growing Fire In Lake County

The Valley Fire was first reported around 1:30 Saturday afternoon near High Valley and Bottle Rock Roads in the community of Cobb. It is moving southeast from Cobb towards Middletown and Hidden Valley Lake, firefighters say. By Sunday morning, Cal Fire announced that the fire had burned 50,000 acres.

9. Davis Police Identify Victim, Additional Suspects Wanted In Fatal Downtown Stabbing

The 23-year-old unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the hospital after what witnesses are describing as a bar fight inside a popular Thai restaurant that turns into a nightclub.

Thousands of fish lay dead in what used to be Mountain Meadows reservoir also known as Walker Lake, a popular fishing hole just west of Susanville. Residents say people were fishing on the lake last Saturday, but it drained like a bathtub overnight. Bauer has lived near this lake his entire life. This is the first time he's ever seen it run dry. He and other residents want answers.
