'Pressurization Event' Forces Southwest Flight From Sacramento To Divert To Oakland

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A Southwest Airlines flight from Sacramento spent about an hour Sunday afternoon circling over the Yuba City area burning fuel.

Flight 1665 took off from Sacramento International Airport at 2:51 p.m. and was scheduled to land in Denver.

A passenger said the plane experienced some sort of mechanical issue and had to burn fuel to land.

Southwest Airlines later confirmed that the pilot reported a "pressurization event" and had to divert the plane.

According to FlightAware, the plane circled over the Yuba City area north of Sacramento International Airport for about an hour before heading south. The plane landed safely at Oakland International Airport just after 5 p.m.

Southwest says a new plane will be taking the 133 passengers to Denver. Mechanics will be taking a look at the plane that experienced problems and it has been taken out of service.

Just this past week, a Southwest flight originating from Oakland had to turn back and make an emergency landing due to problems with its landing gear. The flight, which was originally scheduled to land in Chicago, circled over the Stockton area for several hours before landing safely.
