Fire Injures 2 People At South Sacramento Home

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Smoke and flames engulfed a two-story home in South Sacramento with a couple trapped inside.

"When our crews arrived, [there was] very heavy fire in the rear of the structure," said Chris Harvey, a Sacramento Fire Department spokesperson.

Neighbors came out, doing what they could to help.

"People were trying to put out the fire by setting up a water hose," said Harvey.

Adam Aldaco happened to be driving by when he saw the flames and jumped into action.

"I started yelling at the window," he said.

The couple in the 60's was desperately trying to escape.

"Started asking him to jump out the window, he tried to come outside, but couldn't make it so he jumped out the window," said Aldaco.

The man's wife was also trapped, desperately trying to save the family's valuables

"She was trying to throw stuff but she finally jumped. They were both injured pretty bad," said.

Aldaco stood outside the home trying to catch the couple as they jumped from their window in a desperate attempt to escape the flames.

"We both tried to catch his wife, but she hit the hood of a car," said Aldaco.

While he was not able to save them from injury, Aldaco was happy he could help.

The couple was rushed to the UC Davis Medical Center with unknown injuries.
