Two Storms Arriving In The Sacramento Area This Week

Two El Nino storms will arrive in Northern California this week.

The first raindrops should arrive in the valley around 10 p.m. Tuesday night. Periods of moderate rain will continue overnight, with valley rain totals of .25 inches to .75 inches possible.

Showers and wet roads are likely for the Wednesday morning commute. Moderate rain will continue in the foothills Wednesday morning, where rain totals of .50 inches to 1.50 inches are possible.

The storm will also bring a fresh round of snow to the Sierra. A winter storm watch is posted for the western slope beginning at midnight Tuesday night, through midnight Wednesday night. Six inches to 12 inches of snow will likely accumulate above 5,500 feet in elevation, with 18 inches of snow totals possible over the higher Sierra peaks.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for the Lake Tahoe area from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday, for 2 inches to 4 inches of new snow at lake level and in Truckee.

The wet weather will taper off late Wednesday night, with a slight chance of showers Thursday into Friday.

Another, more organized, round of valley rain and Sierra snow will move in late Friday, and continue on Saturday.
