Dixon Businessman Tackles Fleeing Suspect Who Ran Inside His Shop

By Abbott Dutton

DIXON (CBS13) — A Dixon businessman helped police apprehend a suspect on the run when that suspect made the mistake of running into the wrong business.

Word is spreading fast about the big takedown at Thom Bogue's shop.

"All I saw was my town's officers chasing what appears to be a bad guy and there was no way this guy was gonna get away, no way," he said.

Police had stopped the suspect a couple of blocks away for a traffic violation, but the man took off, running right into Bogue's auto shop and right into view of surveillance cameras.

"They were saying stop and even as I held him down he was trying to get away and as the other officer took over he was trying to fight his way free," he said.

He didn't consider whether the man had a weapon or not, he just did what came naturally.

"I would say that a lot of those instincts probably do come from that time of my life as a young man, I had to survive a lot of terrible situations," he said.

The former Dixon city councilman and vice mayor is one of the few survivors of the 1978 Jonestown Massacre. His family was able to escape that day, and his leg still bears a scar from a shotgun.

Bogue has a message for criminals.

"Don't go to Dixon if you're a criminal because the citizens there are crazy, they will take you on, and they don't care," he said.

The suspect was arrested for drug possession and resisting arrest.
