Crash Involving Big Rig, Sedan Closes I-5 South Of Elk Grove

(CBS13) - A crash involving a jackknifed big rig and a sedan blocked lanes of northbound Interstate 5 on Monday morning.

The incident happened just south of the Twin Cities Road exit around 3:30 a.m. and involved the truck, which was towing a trailer, and a sedan. One person was injured in the crash, according to a CHP statement.

A towing crew arrived at the scene of the crash and move the truck out of one lane before they ran into "complications." At one point, traffic was backed up as far away as two miles.

Several drivers decided to leave the freeway and cross the dirt center divider so they could go south on Interstate 5. However, some underestimated the depth of the mud in the median and got stuck.

Heavy rains on Monday lead to several other crashes and localized flooding on area roadways.
