Sacramento Seeing Extra Traffic Thanks To Super Bowl 50

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Sacramento may see more travelers as the Super Bowl crowds spill eastward from the Bay Area.

What's good for the city by the bay is turning out to be a-OK for the places that surround the Super Bowl hot spot.

"Whenever there's high demand for something there is the opportunity for compression in cities like Sacramento," said Mike Testa with the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau.

That attention will come because San Francisco is jam-packed full. And if people are looking for another place to stay that's close, they may very well look at Sacramento.

The Sheraton Grand is hosting a large group from San Francisco that couldn't find enough available rooms in the Bay Area during Super Bowl week.

Other Sacramento hotels are ready for the extra visitors, as well as restaurants and tourist hot spots. And it's not just about the Super Bowl. People may extend their visits to avoid peak travel times around the big game and be looking for more to explore.

Testa says his team will also be spreading a message to Super Bowl visitors in San Francisco and Santa Clara.

"Certainly on our end as we continue to talk about Sacramento as America's Farm-to-Fork capital we will be broadcasting loud and clear that much of the food that folks are eating in San Francisco restaurants is being sourced is being sourced in the Sacramento region so that is something that we'll definitely play on, and want to get that message out to visitors and media."
