UOP Student Who Worked With Community Leaders Accused Of Raping Unconscious Woman

STOCKTON (CBS13) — A UOP student who has worked with Stockton city leaders on community projects is now accused of raping another student.

Rudy Buenrostro-Corral was an active student at the University of the Pacific, but since Jan. 19, he's been behind bars at the San Joaquin County Jail

"I don't go," his mother Maria Buenrostro said. "I don't want to see my boy in there."

His family stands by the Stockton native. They say he's worked with the Stockton City Council and community groups to help Stockton's youth.

"He started working with the kids, little kids. He started working with the government," she said.

His older brother was in prison, which spurred Rudy's interest in helping youth.

Stockton Police say on Dec. 8, Rudy forcibly raped a female student off campus at an apartment complex on Pershing Avenue when she was unconscious.

He was arrested on Jan. 19.

His bail was set at $1 million—$500,000 for each charge against him. After a Feb. 2 hearing, the court found no probable cause to hold him on a charge of rape using force or fear. His bail is now set at $500,000.

UOP says it's cooperating with police and has initiated its own internal investigation.
