FBI: UC Merced Stabbing Suspect Was Inspired By ISIS, Acted Alone

MERCED (CBS13) — Federal investigators say a student who stabbed four people at UC Merced was inspired by ISIS, but acted alone.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is basing its findings on pro ISIS propaganda found on 18-year-old Faisal Mohammad's laptop, as well as evidence he had been planning the attack for at least a week. Part of that plan was laid out in a two-page, handwritten plan found in his backpack. Mohammad saw himself being able to take hostages and kill students and police officers.

Mohammad was the only person who died in the Nov. 4 attack after he was shot by a campus police officer. That shooting was later ruled justified.

No evidence was found that he was working with or directed by anyone, the FBI said.
