Natomas Suspect Caught On Video Stealing Security Camera From Home

NATOMAS (CBS13) — What started as a knock on the door ended in the dismantling of a security camera at a Natomas home.

It happened in broad daylight in the Natomas neighborhood, but the homeowners are hoping their video will help police catch him.

The surveillance video isn't just crystal clear; it went right to Kathleen Kizilbash's phone.

"You can see him coming to the door looking around and he just reaches back and grabs it right off the wall," he said.

She got the alert from her newly installed doorbell camera on Thursday morning. Nobody was home, but once the unit detected motion, she and her husband got a text alert that took them right to the Ring app.

"I can hear him, I could have talked to him, I didn't realize who he was or what was going on until it was too late and I was flustered," she said.

The man in the video seemed to have noticed the camera and started ripping the doorbell off the wall.

"It was pretty incredible; it's always unsettling to know that someone is taking advantage of you, and you have no control," she said.

The couple quickly posted the video on Next Door alerting neighbors.

"Kids come out and play all the time, and it was just scary and shocking to know it happened so close to home," said Nita Khushal.

The couple isn't alone. The FBI's mid-term audit of crime, property crime was shown on the rise in the area.

The couple has taken additional steps to protect themselves, including cameras and motion detectors. They're hoping the video will make a difference.
