Deep Hole Opens Up In California Homeowner's Backyard
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) -- A hole estimated to be 4 feet wide and 30 to 40 feet deep suddenly opened up in a Riverside couple's backyard.
The Press-Enterprise reports the hole appeared Wednesday when Tasha Jenkins' boyfriend began draining their above-ground pool and the water began flowing like a waterfall into a hole where there had been grass and dirt.
Jenkins says public utilities workers who came to look at the hole believe it may be an old well or drainage system.
She says it's nerve-wracking to know that the hole had been ready to open up at any time in an area where her four children played and birthday parties have been held.
