1 Dead, 4 Wounded In Central California Apartment Fire

CLOVIS, Calif. (AP) -- One woman is dead and four police officers have been hospitalized after an apartment fire in the Central California city of Clovis.

KFSN-TV reports that firefighters say the blaze started in a downstairs unit of the two-story apartment complex early Friday. An upstairs neighbor heard what he believed to be the elderly woman falling.

Police arrived on scene and were able to get the woman out of the building. She was taken to a hospital where she later died from her injuries. Four police officers are being treated for smoke inhalation.

American Red Cross is coordinating with the people affected by the fire.
