SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Health officials say there have now been 10 suspected opioid-related deaths in the Sacramento area.

The number of reported opioid-related overdoses has also increased to 42 cases.

Authorities suspect the overdoses are related to a batch of illicit painkillers laced with a drug known as fentanyl.

The Drug Enforcement Administration is investigating the recent outbreak of overdoses. In each case, officials note, the painkiller is disguised as the prescription drug hydrocodone.

The DEA confirms that several search warrants were served in relation to the case over the weekend. The warrants have been sealed, so it is unknown what was taken by agents.
