Man Convicted Of Torturing, Murdering Eureka Priest

EUREKA, Calif. (AP) -- A Northern California man has been found guilty of torturing and murdering a priest.

The Eureka Times Standard reports Tuesday that after four days of deliberation, jurors in the Gary Lee Bullock trial found him guilty on Monday in the slaying of Eureka priest Rev. Eric Freed on New Year's Day 2014.

Bullock had been released from jail a few hours earlier.

The 46-year-old Bullock had entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity.

Now it will be up to jurors to determine whether he was insane at the time of his crimes. If the jury finds him sane, he faces life without the possibility of parole.

If found insane by the jury, Bullock could face life in a state psychiatric hospital. A court-issued gag order prevents attorneys from discussing the case.
