VIDEO: Rescuers Save Injured Hawk Stuck In Tree

SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) – A hawk stuck in a redwood tree in the Arden Arcade area is safe after being rescued Monday evening.

The bird had been tangled in some type of rope or string about 80-feet above ground for the past 24 hours near Fulton and Marconi Avenues.

Working with the rescue group Gold Country Wildlife, Metro Fire firefighters used a ladder truck and were able to get the bird down.

You don't see this often! A hawk 60+ feet up in a tree, stuck on a branch with fishing line (used to fly a kite) wrapped all around one wing. Firefighters from Truck106 and Engine101 worked closely with Gold Country Wildlife (non-profit rescue group) to safely remove the bird from the tree and then worked to untangle his wing. This poor hawk is lucky to be alive, though his right wing feathers sustained some serious damage. The crew at Gold Country will determine whether or not the hawk can be released anytime soon. With his mate flying nearby throughout the rescue, the goal is to get him back in the air as soon as possible!

The hawk's right wing feathers were injured. It has been taken to a vet to be checked out.
