Investors Excited Sacramento Could Be Home To MLS Team

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Sacramento investors say they're excited with the announcement a Major League Soccer team could be coming to MLS in the coming years.

Construction of a new downtown soccer stadium could start in a couple of months, and real-estate experts are already predicting increased interest after Thursday's announcement.

Commercial broker John Mudgett specializes in downtown and Midtown development, and it's Development he sees likely increasing after word from the MLS commissioner expecting Sacramento will have a Major League Soccer team in the next few years.

The rail yard development has already prompted a boon to construction in nearby areas. New, upscale housing recently completed and future residential units under construction.

So how might the addition of an MLS soccer stadium on the site impact the rail yards project?

"Additional interest from businesses corporate potential relocations from corporations that also want the Marquee opportunity and presence in Sacramento," he said.

A proposed economic boost for the city that could add up to more than $1 billion.

The estimates are Major League Soccer in Sacramento is going to build into $1.7 billion of economic growth in the region It's a direction that some residents say will give Sacramento a reputation upgrade.
