Mysterious Explosions Lead To Discovery Of Body On High Voltage Power Line Tower

LOCKEFORD, Calif (CBS13) -- A San Joaquin community is in shock after mysterious explosions on Saturday night led to a gruesome discovery in a Lockeford orchard on Sunday morning.

It was still unclear as to who the victim was or exactly what had happened as authorities canvassed the scene Sunday. The body remained there Sunday afternoon as authorities faced several obstacles to recover it due to power lines and nearby trees.

A woman who lives near the orchard off E. Highway 88 told CBS13's Macy Jenkins she thought a hawk's nest had caught fire after hearing multiple explosions on Saturday night.

"You could see a big orange ball. I knew it was in line with the power towers, but I couldn't tell which one," she said. "I saw a bike at the bottom of the tower so I went a little closer and then I could see the shape of a person."

Deputies from the San Joaquin Sheriff's Department, as well as fire crews and PG&E, responded to the tower that holds several high-voltage transmission lines and found the lifeless body on one of the upper platforms.

Crews were working to remove the body safely and shut down two of the transmission lines to gain access to the body.
