Calaveras High Names 4 Finalists to Replace 'Redskins' Mascot

SAN ANDREAS (CBS13) – Calaveras High School has named four finalists to replace its current mascot, the Redskins.

A new state law requires the school to change its mascot by Jan. 1, 2017.

The finalists are: Skulls, Reds, Red Tail Hawks – or no mascot at all.

If the mascot "skulls" sounds a bit morbid, just remember that in the Spanish translation of skulls is Calaveras.

The board will decide this month and finalize the selection at the end of May.

It's estimated it will cost upwards of 100-thousand dollars to change everything.
