Snapchat Accused Of Making 'Blackface' Filter With Bob Marley Lens

Snapchat's filters are usually an innocent way people can have a little fun. But some are saying a Bob Marley filter released on 4/20 is offensive.

The filter was created as a tongue-in-cheek way to acknowledging 4/20 – known as "Weed Day."

As with many Snapchat filters, the Bob Marley filter morphs people's faces and adds some features: like, in this case, dreadlocks and a crochet beanie.

The change that people are taking issue with is the way that the filter also darkens people's skin color to try and match Marley's. People have been flooding Twitter, saying Snapchat created a blackface filter with the app.

Snapchat says they worked with Marley's estate to create the filter and appreciate the late musician's image. They have not commented on the controversy.
