Russell Rawlings Withdraws From Sacramento Mayoral Race
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- Russell Rawlings has withdrawn from the Sacramento Mayoral Race according to a post on his Campaign's Facebook Page. In the statement, he says he is suspending his campaign and supporting candidate Darrell Steinberg.
"Throughout the course of this campaign I have learned a great deal and been able to champion the issues I didn't feel were being adequately addressed by our city – homelessness, affordable housing, public transportation and empowering our neighborhoods. I also learned the power of a positive message and campaign and have been impressed by Darrell Steinberg, who not only is dedicated to addressing these issues in a positive way, but who also welcomed me as a colleague in this race."
"I am grateful for all of the support everyone has shown me as I championed these key issues in my campaign. The most important thing to me is ensuring these issues have a true champion and leader who will not only work on them but who can also shift the culture of City Hall to be more inclusive and collaborative. I believe Darrell Steinberg is that leader."
"Effective immediately, I am suspending my campaign for mayor and am throwing my full support behind Darrell. I ask my supporters to join me as I phonebank and canvass for Darrell to ensure we elect the right leader for Sacramento in June – progress together is possible!"
