Possible UFC 200 Replacement Fights

With Conor McGregor (19-3) and the UFC in a standstill, Dana White has some big decisions to make.

Originally, UFC 200, one of the biggest UFC events of all time, was supposed to be headlined by a rematch between McGregor and Nate Diaz (20-10). However, after an ongoing media frenzy between McGregor and White, UFC 200 may have to find a new bout for the main event.

Here are some possibilities the UFC could consider to replace McGregor vs Diaz II as UFC 200's Main Event.

Jon Jones vs Daniel Cormier II

With Jon Jones coming fresh off a win against Ovince Saint Preux, Jones is now the holder of the Interim Light Heavyweight belt. However, the Interim title holds little meaning to the former champion. Daniel Cormier, the new Lightweight Champion, and Jones' longtime rival, is the only person standing in the way of the former champion recapturing his title.

The two were originally scheduled to headline UFC 197 that took place last Saturday. Unfortunately, Cormier had to pull out of the bout due to injury just 3 weeks away from the card. Cormier only suffered a torn ligament in his leg rather than a broken bone, but the injury still forced the current champion to be replaced by #6 ranked Saint Preux.

Jones won the bout via unanimous decision in his return to the octagon and made it immediately clear that Cormier was the only thing on his mind (consult the video below). In reality, Cormier's injury may be a blessing in disguise for the UFC as well as for Jones and Cormier. Jones was able to shake off any ring rust he had from his layoff at UFC 197 and Cormier may get to defend his belt on a bigger stage. The UFC can replace its headline bout with two big names and put another belt on the line.

Georges St-Pierre vs. Robbie Lawler

Since his retirement from mixed martial arts in 2013, rumors have been circulating about Georges St-Pierre's (25-2) return to the octagon. It is widely believed that insufficient drug testing in the organization was the primary reason for the former Welterweight champion's departure. However, now that USADA has made changes to its anti-doping policies and ramped up illegal substance testing, maybe it is time for the legendary St-Pierre to make his comeback.

Current Welterweight Champion, Robbie Lawler (26-10), could be the perfect test for GSP. Since obtaining the Welterweight belt, Lawler has obtained wins over big names such as Johnny Hendricks, Rory MacDonald, and Carlos Condit. Lawler is also the only UFC champion without a scheduled title defense in the events leading to UFC 200.
