CSU Teachers OK Tentative Pact With 10.5 Percent Raise

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Members of the union representing nearly 30,000 California State University teachers have overwhelmingly approved a tentative three-year contract granting them raises totaling 10.5 percent.

The Cal State Faculty Association said Tuesday that 97 percent of its members who cast ballots voted in favor of the proposal.

Association officials added that 63 percent of the 28,000 members voted.

The deal must still be approved by the CSU's Board of Trustees, which is expected to take the issue up during its May 24-25 meeting.

The pact was reached by negotiators for both sides last month, heading off a threatened five-day work stoppage.

Union negotiators agreed to a provision requiring that faculty members hired after Fall 2017 wait 10 years to obtain tenure.

The current tenure requirement is five years.
