Folsom Readying For Stage 6 Of Amgen Tour Of California

FOLSOM (CBS13) — The excitement over the Amgen Tour of California moves to Folsom on Friday as Stage 6 rolls into town.

The roads are already closed and vendors are setting up their tents as thousands of tourists are expected for Friday's stage.

"It's much better when it starts in Northern California instead of Southern California," said retired Cyclist Tom Mikkelsen.

He came from Berkeley to watch the race as part of the tour he's followed for the last five years.

Friday's time trial will match some of the fastest male and female cyclists from around the world in a race against the clock on a 12-mile course.

Eric Snook is working overtime churning chocolate and breaking brittle.

"When the racers finish we're going to pass out little bags so that way they have something to snack on when they're done -- boost their energy a little bit," he said.

A lifestyle festival is also part of the mix. With 40 bike, food, and entertainment exhibitors, the festival is expected to block off Folsom Boulevard and Sutter Street.

With both the Rainbow Bridge and Folsom Lake Crossing also closing for the day, it's an opportunity to show off the history and charm of Old Town Folsom.
