Vets Place Pacemaker Into San Diego Zoo Tasmanian Devil

SAN DIEGO (CBS13) – Nick the Tasmanian devil is back home at the San Diego Zoo after being implanted with a pacemaker.

Veterinarians discovered back in January that Nick had a heart condition causing him to have an abnormally slow heartbeat.

A plan was soon devised to implant a pacemaker into Nick – making him only second of his species on record to have pacemaker, zoo staff said.

The zoo documented the procedure.

Vets from the University of California, Davis, Veterinary Medical Center in San Diego performed the procedure in early May.

Nick is now back in his exhibit and looks to be doing fine.
