4 Reasons To Head Out To Monster Energy Aftershock 2016

Come October, the next generation of hard rock will be meeting the giants of the 90s and early 2000s at Discovery Park.

Monster Energy Aftershock Festival's lineup was announced this week. Tool, Avenged Sevenfold, Slayer, Korn, Primus and Disturbed all got top billing. Meshuggah, Puscifer, The Pretty Reckless, Chevelle, Anthrax and Ghost round out the major acts.

Here are four reasons why you should come and rock out:

1. Korn is as strong as ever
Korn has been touring with its almost fully original lineup since Brian "Head" Welch returned in 2013. The band is reportedly working on another album, a follow up to 2013's "The Paradigm Shift," and Welch recently even released a new book that delves deep into his time away from Korn.

2. Disturbed still disturbing
Disturbed's most-recent album contained a cover of Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence." It somehow became their highest charting single ever. Kind of funny (or disturbing, if you will). If it's any consolation, Disturbed's signature song "Down With The Sickness" won the title of Loudwire's Best Metal Song of the 21st Century this year.

3. Deafheaven
Did they really just make black metal pop-y? That's the question almost everyone was asking back in 2013 when Deafheaven released their album "Sunbather" to almost universal critical acclaim. Even Deafheaven doesn't really know what to consider themselves (their sound is a mix of My Bloody Valentine, Immortal and ABBA's "wall of sound"). Their next album, 2015's "New Bermuda," also received rave reviews, positioning Deafheaven as THE metal band of the 2010s.

4. The Pretty Reckless
Do they sound familiar? You're probably remembering that this is the band led by "Gossip Girl" actress Taylor Momsen. Laugh if you will, but The Pretty Reckless has been going strong and touring constantly since 2007. They've released two albums, 2010's "Light Me Up" and 2014's "Going To Hell," and Momsen started teasing earlier this year that they're working on a third album.
