Man Suspected Of Robbing, Sexually Assaulting Woman Arrested

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Police say they have arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman in Sacramento earlier in June.

The incident happened back on June 4. Sacramento police say officers responded to the 4900 block of Mack Road early that morning to investigate a robbery.

Officers soon discovered that a woman had been sexually assaulted.

The woman told officers that she was walking through an apartment complex in the area when a man armed with a knife walked up behind her. The man stole her cellphone, then sexually assaulted her.

Detectives released a sketch of the suspect and asked the public to help identify him.

Tuesday, police say they identified the suspect as 19-year-old Sacramento resident John Zeigler and arrested him.

Zeigler was booked at Sacramento County Jail and is facing charges of kidnapping, robbery, rape, oral copulation and assault with a deadly weapon.
